Why is the Frame A Critical Component of a Mini Bike
A mini bike frame is what distinguishes
the product of one manufacturer from another. A mini bike frame typically has the seat perched on top, the engine
on the lower platform, and consists of two hexagon-shaped rods. The frame is a
critical component of a mini bike, not only in terms of the strength to take
the weight of the engine and the suspension but for stability and balance too.
The mini bike frame holds all the parts of
the bike - the engine, transmission, gas tank, seat, front fork, and rear
suspension - together and hence is specially manufactured to have great
load-bearing capabilities. Further, many owners tweak their bikes and add a lot
of accessories to jazz up their bikes, a practice that should be avoided unless
one is sure about the load-bearing capacity of the mini bike frame.
For example, many
riders, especially those that are into dirt track racing and take their bikes
over challenging courses add a supercharger for extra power or change the wheel
rim to fit tires that are specially made for these conditions. But without
strengthening the mini bike frame to
take the extra load, the balance of the bike will be badly affected mainly when
leaning into corners at high speeds. These are some factors that must e taken
into consideration before modifying a mini bike.
A mini bike frame is made of steel or
welded aluminum struts with the rear suspension being an integral part of the
frame. It also has the front fork and the head tube attached to it. Racing bikes
have mini bike frame made of
lighter materials like magnesium, carbon fiber, or titanium.
